Hilton Heath Merino and Poll Merino studs are run at Sanderston in the Adelaide Hills and Keith in the South East, on properties with 300- millimetres to 425mm rainfall. Their sheep are bred to be large-framed and robust with high fleece weight in the 19 micron to 21μ range. New sires bought from Greenfields, Collinsville and Poll Boonoak studs were selected for their growth rates, supple skins and quality fleece. Selecting sheep for long-staple, white stylish wool on correct large frames ensures highly productive animals that suit today’s meat and wool markets. While most rams are sold by private treaty, select rams are sold at the Adelaide Ram Sale. Inspections and enquiries are welcome. Last year’s matings for 2012 sale rams include Merino – Hilton Heath, Calcookara Cojac, Wanganella, and Collinsville and Poll Merino – Moorundie Park K1, Nyowee, Greenfields, Hilton Heath, Calcookara ‘Garrett’, and Collinsville Poll. All sale rams will have updated tests at selection time. Sheep and hogget classings available on request. Hilton Heath sheep can be inspected at Mid North, South East and Mallee field days and at the Bendigo and Adelaide shows.
