Ramsgate stud is based in the Upper South East at Tintinara and its principals Craig and Jed Keller achieved their best sale results to date last year. The on-property sale saw a rise in registered buyers, resulting in a good clearance and a $600 increase in the average, taking it to $1340. This pattern was repeated in other studs throughout the selling season, maintaining the fact that Ramsgate remains a value-for-money and affordable stud. Ramsgate also offered and sold five rams at Hamilton and four at the Classings Classic sale Murray Bridge, with a top price of $5600 for G75 – 649 sold to Roma Downs Keith. It continues to focus on the main three profit drivers – fibre, fertility and frame. The stud aims for a long, free-growing deeply crimped fibre with an adult micron of 19 to 20 on a plain, thin, loose skin breeding towards mules-free status, with the potential for six monthly shearing. Ramsgate’s current fertility policy is to cull from the stud flock any empty ewes at scanning or dry ewes at lamb marking. It aims for an early maturing, largeframe animal with improved carcase traits. Ramsgate looks forward to the 2012 selling seasons with progeny on offer from sires Leahcim 438, L556 Buster, WP 115 (X Maximus), WP 749 (XL154), Glenlea Park 004, Ninuenook 10 and Lucernbrae 306. It continued to grow and develop because of ongoing AI and ET programs. New enquires, inspection and comments welcome. Ramsgate rams will be on display at the South East Merino field day and at the Hamilton Sheepvention or they can be viewed by appointment. Rams will be available for purchase at the Hamilton Sheepvention, at Ramsgate’s on-property sale on Tuesday, August 14, at the Classings Classic and by private selection by appointment.
