Established in 1925, Rices Creek is currently run by Jim Vandeleur and sons Kym, Ryan, Mark, James and their families. The stud aims to breed big-framed, early maturing sheep with productive wool-growing skins and plain bodies at their Tintinara and Saddleworth properties. Together with fleece tests, sheep are checked for growth rates and carcase traits to identify the most productive animals to suit current market conditions. At Rices Creek’s third on-property sale at Tintinara last year, average prices increased to $1521 and the top price touched $3000. A 2011 highlight was the $8000 top for RC22 at the Adelaide Ram Sale, which sold to Old Kelvale and Allala Merino studs. And two rams av $5250 at Classings Classic Sale. Private selections were very strong last year, with rams heading throughout the State and across the border. Current sires in use are Rices Creek, Leachim, Glenlea Park, Wallaloo Park, and Kamora Park. This year, rams will be displayed at Burra, South East and Hamilton field days. Rams on show will be sons of Rices Creek, Glenlea Park, Leachim and Ridgeway sires. Rices Creek rams will be sold by private selection and auction at Tintinara on Thursday, August 2. • Details: Mark and Tara Vandeleur, Tintinara, SA, 08 8756 5064, 0417 871 054, Jim and Judy Vandeleur, Saddleworth, SA, 08 8849 2062, 0429 492 062.
