The stud’s commitment to the Merino industry is evident from its consistent and substantial breeding program offering a dual-purpose Merino and Poll Merino. The Ridgway Advance sheep portray a genuine ‘balance’ in their production and performance, focusing on both wool and meat qualities, and have high reproduction results. These distinctive types of sheep display all the attributes of the ‘modern Merino’. David and Karen Ridgway regard both industries as having equal significance and believe that it’s important not to be distracted by changing global trends. The stud finetunes both the meat and wool components within the flock, enabling clients to breed sheep that compete well in both markets. Conformation of performance in the commercial scene saw long-term Ridgway Advance clients achieving great results in offshear sales this season, where they topped markets at Murray Bridge, Lameroo and Wycheproof with their young surplus ewes. A key component of the Ridgway Advance rams is their plain, supple and highly productive skins that allow for robust animals with great carcase attributes and produce long, soft, white fibre in all environments. In the past 15 years, there has been no deviation in the direction the stud has taken. Commitment to a long-term stable breeding strategy and selecting for both meat and wool traits has seen the Ridgway Advance sheep become an established, recognised genetic line of Merinos renowned for their even, predictable breeding. The annual ram sale of 200 young rams will be held at David and Karen Ridgway’s Senior Property, Emu Flat Road, Bordertown, Wednesday, August 15. Inspection and enquires welcome.
